Eightpastfive Upholstery began in February 2013 after owners Ben & Elissa settled with their young family in Porepunkah, North East Victoria.

Ben first became interested in the Upholstery trade whilst studying Graphic Design – he was a delivery driver and trade assistant for a company in Perth. Upon arriving in Melbourne in 2007 his experience lead him to calling a few upholstery businesses to see if they had any work available. It wasnt long before Ben realised his passion for upholstery was stronger than Graphic Design and so came the shift in changing careers.

In 2011 Ben and Elissa took the plunge to leave Melbourne for a 12 month working holiday with the hope of gaining more skills from a variety of upholsterers and deciding where to settle. Both country kids at heart they knew their children would benefit from the country lifestyle and so already knowing the alpine region, Porepunkah became home and Ben was confident to open his own business.
Elissa previously worked in the special needs field and with many years working behind the scenes supporting Ben she formally began her apprenticeship in Upholstery in 2021.
"We love what we do, we enjoy the flexibility that comes from owning a business, spending as much time with our children and enjoying this amazing region we are a fortunate enough to call home."

Discover the name – Eight past five was the time Ben was born – hence why the Stork “the bringer of life” came to mind when designing the logo. The logo is designed with the thought that a thread has fallen on the floor creating a shape resembling a stork. The colour represents the alpine region and the slogan “All aspects of the art” is to highlight we are open to all forms of upholstery not just furniture.
